Laser Skin Resurfacing for Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Your skin changes every year. The natural aging process takes its toll, and exposure to the harsh UV rays of the sun speeds up the signs of aging. The result? Skin with more wrinkles and fine lines!

At Girard Internal Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nicole Kimzey, DO, and our experienced care team has a solution that improves the look and feel of your skin — without needles or a scalpel. Laser skin resurfacing with the IconTM Aesthetic System restores your skin, helping you look your best in the new year!

What is laser therapy?

Laser therapy delivers quick pulses of concentrated light into the deeper layers of the affected skin areas. This energy penetrates the outer layers to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sun damage and improve your skin texture and tone.

How does the Icon laser system work?

The Icon laser targets the treatment areas and generates heat in the layers of skin below the surface. This heat triggers your body’s natural collagen production and encourages the growth of new skin cells.

The increased collagen causes new skin to begin in the middle and surface layers of your skin, eventually replacing the superficial layer of skin on the surface. As this new skin grows and replaces the old, wrinkles and fine lines fade, giving you a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

What problems can I address with the laser resurfacing?

At Girard Internal Medicine, we use skin-rejuvenating laser resurfacing with a wide range of skin concerns. While deep wrinkles, fine lines, and creases are some of the most popular reasons people opt for laser resurfacing, we can also treat:

Before treatment, Dr. Kimzey evaluates your skin and reviews your medical history before helping you set realistic, attainable goals for your face.

What is a laser resurfacing session like?

Laser therapy is non-invasive, which means you don’t have to worry about any needles or injections. Most of our patients describe little to no pain, but you may feel heat or tingling during your session.

The concentrated light energy only enters the places on your skin you want our team to target, and we adjust the lasers to ensure it uses the optimal wavelength on the different skin tissues.

There’s no downtime required, and side effects are minimal. Some patients notice redness and slight swelling, but these typically resolve within a few days.

How long does it take to see results after laser resurfacing?

You’ll notice an immediate improvement in your skin tone, however, full results take about six weeks since your body needs time to rejuvenate your skin.

As your skin’s collagen production works to replace your old skin with new skin, your results will improve in the weeks and months after your treatment.

Dr. Kimzey creates a customized plan based on your skin needs and goals, but most people find more than one treatment helps achieve their desired results. The average patient receives three to four treatments spaced one month apart.
